From trail to poster

Hiking is measured in days, not minutes

Hiking is rarely about speed. A trail is a number of days, a number of kilometres and a landscape that slowly changes. That makes the route itself the most interesting thing to show: the line across the map is exactly what happened.

Long-distance paths work well on a poster for that reason. The Pennine Way, a stretch of the Camino, a GR route through the Ardennes or a hut-to-hut trek in the Alps: all routes with a clear direction and an elevation profile that tells the days apart.

Route Frame handles both a recorded walk and a planned route from a route planner. If the trail consists of separate daily files, you merge them into one continuous route with the total distance and elevation gain. You get the print-ready PDF and decide what size to print it.

From hiking route to poster: how it works

All you need is the GPX file of your hike — from Strava, Garmin, Komoot or your GPS.

Step 1 of 5

Download your GPX file

Grab your ride's GPX file from Strava, Garmin and others. One little file with your route — that's all you need to start.

How to export your ride

Your poster starts with a GPX — the file that holds your route. Grab it from Strava or Garmin in half a minute.

  1. 1

    Open your activity on Strava

Go to strava.com (easiest on a computer) and open the activity you want on the poster.

  2. 2

    Open the actions menu

Click the three dots (⋯) at the top right of the activity.

  3. 3

    Choose ‘Export GPX’

Your GPX file downloads right away. Ready to upload.

Tip: exporting works best on the Strava website; the option is tucked away in the app. A manual activity without GPS can't be exported.
